The province’s Minister of Health is allaying some of the fears associated with the collaborative team clinics being opened in the metro region.
Some people are concerned that the clinics won’t really address the doctor shortage, as doctors from one clinic are just being moved around to staff the new clinic.
Minister John Haggie says that is not true.
No physician has left a practice to staff the new clinics, and they are all “new to the system.”
As well, concerns have been raised about continuity of care.
Due to the nature of the clinics, some are concerned that they won’t receive the same continuity that they would with a family physician.
Haggie argues that there is continuity of care with the new clinics, saying they will act as a person’s “health home.”
He says a patient may not see the same person during every visit based on their needs at the time, but he assures “that team will know you,” thus creating continuity of care.
