This is a special year for baseball in Newfoundland, not only because it’s their 75th anniversary but it’s looking like the first “normal” year for sporting activities since 2019.
It all began in 1947 with the formation of the Newfoundland Amateur Baseball Association. Many highlights have followed through the years including a bump in participation over the past five or six years. The executive director of Baseball NL, Ryan Garland, says they have developed a logo for their 75th and have several events planned over the course of the year.
One key aspect of baseball is an increase in female registration numbers.
He says they’re also seeing increases in the grassroots program with good grassroots organizations registering right across the province.
