The island may be seeing spring-like weather, but Mother Nature is dealing parts of Labrador another wintry blow today.
Parts of southeastern Labrador are under winter storm warnings, while Upper Lake Melville and Rigolet are under special weather statements. Cartwright to Black Tickle and Norman’s Bay to Lodge Bay could see another 10 to 15 cm on top of what fell last night.
Justin Boudreau, a meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, says the winds will really start to pick up this afternoon to between 80 and 100 km/h, causing blowing snow and poor visibility.
He says temperatures will be around zero in the earlier part of the day, which is a “saving grace” because that doesn’t allow the snow to be blown around as easily. However, the temperature will drop down into the minus teens as the day goes on, making the blowing snow worse.
