A large low-pressure system has descended on the province bringing a variety of weather including snow, wind, ice and water.
Marine Atlantic has cancelled tonight’s crossings between Port aux Basques and North Sydney because of high winds in the Gulf. Winds in the Wreckhouse will hit 140 tonight and overnight.
Freezing rain will be the thing to watch for in the Burgeo area and on the Northern Peninsula while most of the rest of the island will have rain. Labrador West gets close to 20 cm of snow while central Labrador is in for about 10 cm.
Meteorologist Rodney Barney says the heavy weather on the island kicks in first in the southwest.
He says the weather will be less intense as you go eastward with winds gusting to 80 km/h in metro and rain moving in by about suppertime.
