The health critic says we are missing key data in addressing the doctor shortage and that government has done nothing over the past seven years to recruit physicians.
Topsail-Paradise MHA Paul Dinn says the expansion of the number of seats for students from Newfoundland and Labrador at the Medical School didn’t happen overnight; it was something begun by the former PC Government over ten years ago.
Dinn also says Haggie’s claim of there being 680 physicians in the province lacks critical information such as how many are retired, how many are full-time, how many are part-time, how many are teaching, and how many are locums only.
The health critic also says government is providing insufficient information about the bursary program for medical students.
He wonders how many took advantage of it, and how many stayed afterward. He says the last adjustment to the program was made by the PCs.
