Some Newfoundlanders and Labradorians may not be aware that they can have their used oil and oil products safely recycled free of charge.
The Atlantic Used Oil Management Association works with businesses and households across the Atlantic region, including here in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Local spokesperson Mona Rossiter says the association is responsible for collecting and recycling used oil products.
That includes used aerosol cans, oil filters, oil and glycol, and the containers that they come in. She says their organization collects the items from businesses and ensures that they are properly recycled rather than thrown in a landfill.
She says the program is aimed at garages, trucking companies and car dealerships which are set up with bins and drums to collect material that is collected by one of their members. They also provide a similar free service to homeowners.
She says those same products can be taken to one of their network of garages that collect items, for proper disposal.
