Mary Brown’s is doing its part to help Ukrainian refugees come to Newfoundland.
Both corporately-owned and franchise restaurant locations across Canada are helping in whatever way they can to provide a safe environment for those escaping the war in Ukraine and an opportunity for people to work and rebuild.
Eligible candidates are being offered positions with Mary Brown’s. The company then provides assistance to help those individuals and their families with the cost of flights from Poland and another $3,000 dollars to help get settled in Canada.
Among them is Alper Hos, one of millions of Ukrainians taking refuge in Poland. Hos is leaving Poland on Monday to fly to Newfoundland and Labrador to start a new life.
Mary Brown’s Owner and CEO Greg Roberts is challenging other employers to similarly get involved in addressing the humanitarian crisis.
Meanwhile, TaskforceNL is hosting a web forum today to rally NL employers to hire Ukrainians fleeing the war. Taskforce NL is hosting the webinar to fill local employers in on what they need to do to hire Ukrainians who are seeking work and a safe place to live.
A charter flight from Poland with 175 Ukrainians on board is scheduled to arrive in St. John’s next Monday.
The Manager and Community Liason with Taskforce NL, Courtney Rowsell, says interest is good. Some 50 people are already signed up to hear from a variety of speakers from both the provincial government and the Association for New Canadians.
Taskforce NL is supporting the provincial government to match workers from Ukraine with the approximately 1,200 available jobs in this province.
