The first batch of winners for the 2022 East Coast Music Awards has been announced.
Newfoundland and Labrador is coming away with five awards—the most of any province.
Quote the Raven received the Contemporary/Roots Recording of the Year for “Can’t Hold the Light”, while Kelly McMichael won the Rock Recording of the Year for “Waves.”
Rube & Rake were named Songwriter of the Year, while Mallory Johnson and Twin Kennedy, and Justin Fancy took home the Fans’ Choice awards for Video of the Year and Entertainer of the year respectively.
Music NL Executive Director says it was great for the awards to be back in front of a live audience again.
Rhonda Tulk Lane says it was a night of pure joy, love and excitement for live music, with people who have never met in person finally seeing each other. She calls it a great night for Newfoundland and Labrador.
The remaining awards will be handed out Sunday morning. VOCM and its sister-station New Country NL have been nominated for Media Outlet of the Year, while VOCM Program Director and host of the Irish Newfoundland Show, Greg Smith, has been nominated for Media Person of the Year.
