The provincial government has announced the formation of an “expert panel” to recommend potential approaches to ensure maximum long-term benefits from the Churchill Falls hydro development.
Establishing an expert panel was one of the recommendations of the Muskrat Falls Inquiry.
Premier Andrew Furey, Minister Andrew Parsons and NL Hydro President Jennifer Williams will spoke to reporters Wednesday afternoon.
The panel is made up of Chair Karl Smith, Rexanne Crawford (Nunatsiavut Government), Jim Feehan, David Hay, Jennifer Williams, Rick Hendricks (Innu Nation), Dr. Linda Inkpen, Heather Jacobs, Dr. Nick Mercer (NunatuKavut Community Council), Jane Rowe, David Vardy and Peter Woodward among others.
Their mandate is to recommend potential approaches for government to take to ensure the maximum long-term benefits from Churchill Falls, and should any matter arise concerning the terms of the Upper Churchill Redress Agreement, process accommodations will be made to respect the Innu Nation’s commercial sensitivities.
The 1969 Upper Churchill Contract expires in 2041.
