The province should be in for a decrease in the price of gas tomorrow. Analyst Dan McTeague says all the indicators call for a drop of five or six cents for gas but an increase in diesel fuel—perhaps as much as seven cents. Home heating fuels will go up by about six cents.
He says the decrease in gas prices would be greater without regulation. In those markets, drivers can see what’s going to happen with pricing a day or two in advance whereas in Newfoundland and Labrador, price changes are thrust upon us without warning.
He says drivers in other provinces watch the markets and use the information to judge when to fill up.
Government is looking at the way it sets fuel prices with the Public Utilities Board.
