A large group of demonstrators gathered at the fish plant in St. Mary’s this morning demanding a licence for their crab processing plant.
The plant was filled to capacity as rain drenched the roads outside. People from the region flocked to the building demanding one thing: a licence to operate.

The plant closed down several years ago, but now it has a new owner who has spent thousands in upgrades and wants to reopen it.
There were fiery speeches and loud cheering as the crowd rallied behind what they say will be a huge boost for the region.
At the end of the rally, the crowd burst into a chant of “we need a licence!”
St. Mary’s Mayor Stephen Ryan says they’re giving government until 5 p.m. tomorrow to approve the licence. If they don’t, Ryan says they’ll be moving their protest to Confederation Building on Monday.
