The Nunatsiavut Government says it stands by its report from September 2021 examining the land claims of the NunatuKavut Community Council and will not be offering any further comment at this time.
The NunatuKavut Community Council published its own report on Wednesday, which outlines their claims to land in southern Labrador through Inuit ancestry, and demanded an apology from the Nunatsiavut Government who published their own research report casting doubt on NunatuKavut claims.
The Nunatusiavut Government stated last year that based on their own research and history, its Executive Council does not recognize the proposed NCC land claim.
It said at the time that while it does recognize that some members of the NCC may have some Indigenous ancestry and background, NCC is not entitled to Inuit rights and has no viable claim to land in Labrador.
