Health Minister John Haggie says he was assured in 2020 that measures were in place to guard against a cyberattack.
That assurance came from the province’s Centre for Health Information which raised no red flags one year before hackers crippled the health care system.
The province turned to the centre for that threat assessment after an unrelated report found security flaws.
Haggie stresses that that report was part of a business proposal and didn’t contain the detail of a threat assessment.
He says the assessment provided by the Centre for Health Information determined there were measures in place to mitigate the security risks raised in the business proposal.
The government continues to deflect questions about the cyberattack that occurred on October 30 of last year, refusing to provide details such as whether a ransom was demanded or paid.
Both the RCMP and province’s privacy commissioner are investigating the attack.
