New regulations on the use of off-road vehicles come into effect this coming week.
Come Thursday, May 19, helmets will be mandatory on all off-road vehicles. The only exception is during hunting and trapping activities involving frequent stops and where speed is less than 20 km/h.
Seatbelts are also mandatory on off-road vehicles where seatbelts have been installed by the manufacturer.
Chains are also allowed on off-road vehicle tires. People under the age of 16 cannot operate an off-road vehicle with an engine size that exceeds the manufacturer’s recommendation for an operator of their age and weight, and those under 16 must be supervised by a licenced driver who is at least 18 years of age.
A full list of the new regulations can be found on government’s website.
