An Independent MHA is accusing government of making a “two-tiered” healthcare system by not letting nurse practitioners to bill MCP.
The MHA for Mount Pearl-Southlands, Paul Lane, says there are many gaps in primary care, and nurse practitioners can help in addressing those needs but with the current setup, it comes at a cost to the general public.
Lane says many people are being forced to avail of NP clinics on a fee-for-service basis, however many can’t afford to pay the fee.
All that is required to fix this, says Lane, is a legislative amendment allowing NP’s to bill MCP. He is calling on government to do just that.
