New data from the Angus Reid Institute shows that about one-third of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians believe gun violence is on the rise in this province. Their survey found that 34 per cent believe that to be the case while 9 per cent think gun violence has dropped and 54 per cent see it as not having changed.
Nationally, 60 per cent say gun violence is on the rise in their province.
Official data from Statistics Canada confirms according to Angus Reid that firearm offences have indeed become more common over the last decade.
The survey also found that 68 per cent of people in NL see national rules as the only way to have effective gun policy. Currently, gun laws vary from province to province.
