The rising cost of fuel is impacting everyone in the province, especially those who make a living on the highways.
Those in the trucking industry are feeling the burden of the high cost of diesel and gas, with cash flow management being a cause for concern, as it may be 30 days after filling up that they see the revenue come in.
The estimated cost to fill up a big rig is in the range of $2,000 dollars, leading some firms to have to increase their line of credit.
The executive director of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association, Jean-Marc Picard, says most of the increased cost is being passed on to consumers.
He says if they don’t pass the cost on, most companies would be out of work in a month. He says it’s not something they like to do, but as an industry, they have to continue to move trucks to ensure everything consumers need makes its way into the province.
