A 33-year-old man is dead following an ATV accident in eastern Newfoundland on the weekend.
The fatal crash occurred on a woods road near Petley on Random Island just before 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The man, who police say was not wearing a helmet, was found on the road near the vehicle, which was extensively damaged. He later died in hospital.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is engaged, and an investigation into the crash, including the suspected use of alcohol, is continuing.
The crash occurred just days after new regulations making helmets mandatory for all off-road vehicles came into effect.
According to RCMP, seven people have died in ATV accidents in their jurisdiction so far this year.
