A bizarre incident at a business in the west end of St. John’s early last night has resulted in a man being charged with numerous offences, including assaulting a police officer.

Just as the RNC arrived, they say a 26-year-old man ran at the officer, kicking and punching. Despite being struck in the face, the officer was able to take the man into custody. He was held at the Lockup to appear today on charges including assault, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, uttering threats and causing a disturbance.

The police officer was not injured.
