Next week marks the start of Hurricane Season in the Atlantic and this year is expected to be roughly as active as last in terms of named storms.
2021 was a memorable year in Newfoundland and Labrador as Larry became the first hurricane to make landfall in Atlantic Canada in a few years when it slammed into Newfoundland in September.
Meteorologist Bob Robichaud of the Canadian Hurricane Centre says while the season runs from June 1 through the end of November, August, September and October are the busiest months for named storms.
Forecasters are calling for a 65 per cent probability of an active hurricane season with 14 to 21 named storms and 4 to 6 reaching major hurricane status of Category three, four or five. It’s not known where those storms will end up.
