The province’s Privacy Commissioner has sided with the city of St. John’s, at least for the time being, regarding information withheld in an access to information request regarding St. John’s Sports and Entertainment.
According to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, a request was submitted to the city for information related to the job titles and remuneration of former employees of St. John’s Sports and Entertainment.
The city provided the job titles but refused to provide remuneration paid, citing settlement privilege and relevant sections of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy act.
The office says the circumstances of these employees’ departures from their positions are related to alleged instances of workplace harassment, which are currently being investigated.
The commissioner, Michael Harvey, says that due to the current circumstances the city can continue to withhold the information. However, he notes that the situation is fluid and the city may not be entitled to withhold that information indefinitely.
