The Labrador Shrimp Company is providing 70 commercial fishing enterprises in southern Labrador with EPIRB beacons in memory of two well-known local fishermen who lost their lives in the sinking of the Island Lady last September.
Twenty-five-year-old Marc Russel of Mary’s Harbour and 30-year-old Joey Jenkins of Lodge Bay were lost after failing to return home as scheduled on September 21, 2021.
Despite extensive search efforts, they were never found.
The Labrador Shrimp Company is one of the province’s most successful fish processors, operating five processing plants, and employing hundreds of harvesters and plant workers.
The emergency beacons are being made available through the Labrador Fishermen’s Union Shrimp Company and the NL Fish Harvesting Safety Association.
