After weeks of demanding more help to deal with the rising cost of living, the opposition parties welcomed Thursday’s word of more assistance.
But, as might be expected, they still have concerns, such as the lack of additional help for those using electric heat, and absence of a longer-term plan.
Tory Leader David Brazil says eight cents a litre off the price of gas is great, but he says if it goes up again by 10 cents tomorrow, it’s still increasing debt and the cost of living overall.
NDP Leader Jim Dinn says the additional $75 million still leaves a lot of people out in the cold.
He says while he appreciates the cut in gas prices, and money for those who heat homes with oil, he notes not everyone drives, while others use electric heat.
The changes must still go through the House of Assembly next week, and then the Public Utilities Board before being approved.
