A protest against skyrocketing fuel prices attracted less than a dozen people at Confederation Building in St. John’s this morning.
Organized by a couple from Trinity Bay, they admitted the turnout was disappointing but said it could be attributed directly to the price of gas and the cost of just getting to the protest.
Leanne Pitcher and her husband Andrew Webster said while they understand the province itself is strapped for cash, they say it comes down to how and where the government chooses to spend its money, arguing they haven’t been helping people enough.

The protest was organized before government announced Thursday it was cutting the provincial fuel tax in half and providing one-time subsidies for those who heat their homes with oil.
But Pitcher says that’s still not enough.
Her online petition has attracted more than 7,500 people, in stark contrast to the handful who showed up at today’s protest.
Pitcher is calling on those who could not attend, to find a way to protest either through Facebook Live or standing along the roadway in their area to make their point.
