The Newfoundland oil patch just got a shot in the arm. West White Rose, mothballed during the dark days of the pandemic when oil was next to worthless, is going to be fired up again.
Cenovus says first oil is anticipated in the first half of 2026 with peak production forecast to reach 80,000 barrels per day.
Alex Pourbaix, Cenovus President and CEO, says the project is about 65 per cent complete.
Cenovus and Suncor entered into an agreement whereby Cenovus will decrease its working interest in West White Rose and satellite extensions while Suncor will take a larger stake. Nalcor has a 5 per cent working interest in the satellite fields.
This project will add 14 years of production to the White Rose field.
The Sea Rose FPSO will proceed to a drydock trial two years from now.
