The provincial government is still working to install a greater number of speed cameras along highways in the province.
The Opposition asked for an update on the status of amendments made to the Highway Traffic Act back in the fall of 2019, allowing more speed cameras to be installed to track and prevent excessive speed on the province’s highways.
Service NL Minister Sara Stoodley says they’re still working on having more cameras installed, but the process takes time.
She told the House of Assembly that the process, involving an intergovernmental team, is “incredibly complex” involving the technology, and working with municipalities and law enforcement systems. She hopes to have the traffic cameras up and running as soon as possible.
