Concerns are being raised over Marine Atlantic’s move back to double berthing for truckers.
The ferry service had moved to single cabins for commercial customers during the pandemic, but has since switched back to two truckers to a room, with the option to upgrade.
Thirty-five rooms have been designated for truckers, however, only eight are available for upgrade, according to trucking company owner Chris Hollett. He says when premium booking is factored in, there are really only three rooms up for grabs.
He says waiting for the next ferry isn’t a realistic option either as many don’t know if they have a single berth until onboard.
He says if your truck is already on the ferry, you are not going to back out 20 tractor trailers so that one can get off because they don’t have a cabin.
