A man charged with the second-degree murder of his stepfather in Renews has pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
27-year-old Brandon Noftall stabbed 41-year-old Bobby Noftall four times with his pocketknife, with wounds to the heart and lung proving fatal.
It happened in the early-morning hours of December 18, 2020 in a their rented house in the Southern Shore community.
Court was told a fight between Brandon and his mother Melinda over money quickly escalated, with the victim trying to intervene, during which he was stabbed.
The scene was chaotic, with Brandon first running from the home, but returning to get help and call 911, and Bobby Noftall telling his wife he was bleeding out, with her responding that she loved him.
The three started driving to town and were met by paramedics who, after learning what happened, would not treat the victim out of concern for their own safety.
They were later met by RCMP, who arrested Brandon and declared his stepfather dead, having indeed bled to death in his own truck.
The younger Noftall did say he was sorry for what happened but that was cold comfort for relatives in Supreme Court this morning.
Sentencing is set for September.
