A man from St. Anthony Bight who has driven the Northern Peninsula Highway hundreds of times says he has never seen anything like it.
Early Sunday evening Chris Patey was on the highway in his car when he noticed a transport truck trying to pass in a tricky area—a solid line and on a turn where nobody could see in the area of St. John’s Bay. The truck barreled on through incident-free but Patey noticed it stopped at a gas station in Plum Point.
A short time later in the area of Green Island Brook, the truck again came up from the rear, forcing Patey and an oncoming car to hit the brakes.
About two-thirds of the way through a passing lane, the truck rolled through despite the presence of an oncoming. Had either car not been paying attention, Patey says it would have been a bad scene.
The matter has been forwarded to the RCMP.
