A former teacher and coach will serve four years in jail for sexually assaulting a student.
Noel Strapp was sentenced in St. John’s Provincial Court Tuesday morning.
Strapp was teaching at Roncalli High in Avondale when the relationship with a female student, who cannot be identified, became sexual.
The offences are said to have occurred between 2014 and 2016, with Strapp being 33 and the victim being 16 when they began.
Strapp was found guilty of sexual assault and sexual exploitation in mid-February.
In addition to being sentenced to four years in jail, Strapp must submit a DNA sample while in custody and will be on the sex offender registry for 20 years. He has also been given a 10-year weapons order.
