Marathon Gold is celebrating the official opening of its regional office in Grand Falls-Windsor with a special family-friendly event today.
Marathon Gold CEO Matt Manson says the opening marks an important milestone in the development of the Valentine Lake gold mine in Central Newfoundland.
Marathon held its Annual General Meeting of shareholders in St. John’s on Wednesday, and today’s grand opening comes following three years of environmental assessment.
He says the federal environmental assessment process is expected to be completed soon and they’re eager to start moving forward.
He says the technical work to date has been “exhaustive” and they have signed a number of community co-operative agreements.
“We’ve got a social and economic agreement signed with the Qalipu First Nation, we’ve got an MOU that’s designed to lead to a social and economic agreement with the Mi’apukek First Nation” including a plan around caribou monitoring as well as consultations with the salmonid association.
The opening and ribbon-cutting are taking place today from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Marathon’s office at 7 Queensway in Grand Falls-Windsor.
