The St. John’s downtown pedestrian has reopened for another summer.
The opening was not only greeted with fanfare but, in true St. John’s fashion, with a chill in the air as the fog rolled in through the narrows.
However, by the time the ribbon was cut and some of the fog burned off, summer warmth joined the people beginning to fill the streets.
For the opening, Mayor Breen was joined by numerous city councilors, St. John’s East-Quidi Vidi MHA John Abbott, and St. John’s East MP Joanne Thompson.
Mayor Breen says there is a different feel to the pedestrian mall this year compared to previous iterations as the province comes out of the pandemic. He says more people will be visiting this year, noting that a number of cruise ships will be visiting during the timeframe.
The pedestrian mall will be open daily from now until Labour Day.
