A city-run Canada Day fireworks display is planned for this evening in St. John’s.
However, the City of Corner Brook has been forced to cancel theirs after the specialized pyrotechnician hired to do so was unable to travel to the city due to a flight cancellation.
Good afternoon, folks. Bad news — our evening fireworks 🎆🎆 display has been cancelled.
These are industrial fireworks that can only be operated by specialized personnel, and our technician was unable to make it to the province.
We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. pic.twitter.com/w0gJWhpiFH

The St. John’s event kicks off at Quidi Vidi Lake with a live concert at the bandstand at 8 p.m., followed by fireworks at 10 p.m.
Meanwhile, this evening provides one of just two opportunities during the year in which people are allowed to fire off their own fireworks in St. John’s and Corner Brook.
Both cities have introduced new personal fireworks bylaws that prevent people from using them on days other than New Year’s Eve and Canada Day.
St. John’s Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary says the bylaw was put in place to prevent residents from being disturbed by fireworks year-round and at all hours of the night.
Personal fireworks on Canada Day in St. John’s are only allowed from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., “and that’s it” says O’Leary.
In Corner Brook, personal fireworks can only be discharged between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. and 1 a.m.
