The politician who guided Newfoundland and Labrador through two-and-half of the roughest years in our history is moving to a new role.
Premier Andrew Furey has announced some significant changes to the health and education portfolios in his cabinet.
Effective Immediately, Tom Osborne will take over as Minister of Health and Community Services, while John Haggie will move to Education.
Both ministers were sworn into their new positions at Government House earlier today.
Osborne previously served as Health Minister in the Danny Williams administration. Haggie, meanwhile, had served as Health Minister ever since being first elected and this will be his first venture into the education office.
Meanwhile, the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association says it is looking forward to working with the new education minister.
NLTA President Trent Langdon says the path ahead for the education system in the province must have the proper resourcing of teacher allocations. He says he will be reaching out to Minister Haggie for an initial meeting.
