Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine is part of a national network collaborating on $10 million dollars in COVID-19 research funding provided by the federal government.
The announcement, by federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos, is part of a national effort including the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
The aim is to develop safe and effective COVID-19 therapeutics, including anti-viral medications.
Research networks across Canada, the UK and the EU will investigate outpatient medications and provide insight into whether certain treatments will prevent hospitalization and so-called “long-COVID.”
Dr. Peter Daley is serving as the project lead for Memorial University with the assistance of Drs Kris Aubrey-Bassler and Jordan Stone-McLean.
