Mount Pearl’s soccer and minor baseball associations have been forced suspend games and programs due to the municipal workers’ strike in the city.
Minor baseball games are cancelled until further notice while the soccer association has suspended all programming at its fields and facilities until July 17.
In a social media post on Sunday evening, the minor baseball group stated they did not want to expose players, parents and staff to any possible confrontations where picket lines are set up.
They say they hope the strike, which began last week, will be resolved quickly, adding anyone seeking further information on the situation should reach out to their city councillor.
In a post of its own, the soccer association said while they appreciate that the city will still cut the grass during the labour dispute, they say that does not address safety concerns regarding picket lines at facilities.
