RCMP say a brush fire in the Argentia/Placentia area of the Avalon Peninsula is now under control.
Police issued advisories shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon asking the public to avoid the area of Argentia Line and Placentia Junction.
Officers with the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture were remaining on the scene to tend to hotspots or flareups. Four officers used two pump units to gain the upper hand on the fire.
Police also say access is no longer restricted and they have left the scene.
Firefighters were faced with the extra challenge of mostly dry and windy conditions today.
The area is dotted with cabins and summer homes but it’s not clear if any are at risk, or if there’s been any damage.
Nor is it known what may have sparked the fire.
Meanwhile, a second fire reported on Pig Island in the Summerford area was also listed as under control early Sunday evening.
Update: The brush fire near Argentia Line is under control. Officers with the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture remain at the scene. Access to the public is no longer restricted and police have cleared from the scene.
