A group dedicated to ocean conservation is urging people to go plastic-free during the month of July.
Oceana Canada’s plastic campaign lead Anthony Merante says while they applaud the federal government’s ban on six more types of single-use plastics, they’re putting added pressure on Ottawa to go further to address the issue of plastic pollution.
He says they want the federal government to invest in “refill and reuse solutions”—using milk delivery, and the way it was done decades ago, as an example.
Years ago, milk was delivered in glass bottles, and the empties were picked up weekly to be refilled. Those are the types of deposit return type programs they want the federal government to have a serious look at.
