Residents of the Northeast Avalon are being asked to limit the outdoor use of water due to higher than usual demand and extremely dry conditions of late.
The capital city put a permanent Water Conservation Order in place in 2002 to promote wise water use in the region, but residents are being reminded to follow the order as water demand increases.
The hope is that residents of St. John’s, Mount Pearl, Paradise and Portugal Cove-St. Philips will curb the unnecessary use of water outdoors to prevent water levels from reaching a critical point.
Lawn watering is limited to even street numbers between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Residents of odd street numbers can water their lawns on Thursdays and Sundays between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.and 10 p.m.
Hand watering of lawns and gardens is allowed at any time.
Residents with a new lawn can water them during the times previously outlined every day for a period of 60 days following installation.
Residents can wash cars or windows provided it is done with a hose with a shut-off nozzle.
