Crews worked hard and fast to contain a forest fire in the Conception Bay South area of the Avalon Peninsula on Sunday afternoon.
Two waterbombers made progress throughout the day, dumping water on the blaze in the area of the Lawrence Pond subdivision and Kelligrews.
VOCM began receiving calls, photos and videos of smoke billowing from the area shortly after 1 p.m.
The latest reports suggest crews managed to bring the fire under control by dusk, but were keeping an eye on hotspots and flareups.
The Botwood Fire Department also responded to a fire in the community.
They are asking residents to use caution in wooded areas, or anywhere a fire might occur as fires can start easily and spread quickly.
Meanwhile, the entire Avalon Peninsula is under an extreme risk of forest fires, with many towns cancelling forest-related activities.
The Town of Holyrood cancelled fireworks scheduled for Sunday night as part of Squidfest.
The ongoing fire ban and high fire rating index will instead see those fireworks tentatively take place during RibFest on August 6.
