Two people are dead following two separate crashes in central Newfoundland Friday morning.
A 24-year-old woman is dead, and another person has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries as the result of a moose-vehicle collision on the Trans Canada in central Newfoundland overnight.
Police were called to the scene after a small car with five people on board, collided with a moose on the Trans Canada east of South Brook around 1:00 a.m. Friday
The vehicle left the road and went down over a steep embankment. The young woman, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene.
The driver was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, the other three occupants in the back seat suffered minor injuries.
Meanwhile, a 49-year-old man died after the fuel truck he was driving left the road and rolled over just east of the Bay d’Espoir turnoff around 4:00 a,m. The victim, who was the driver and lone occupant of the truck, died at the scene.
The crash caused a significant spill on the highway, and a clean-up is now underway, reducing the highway to a single lane.
