The donations and volunteer effort put into creating a space to reflect on fallen RCMP members were formally recognized Thursday.
The special Memory Garden is located at the rear of RCMP headquarters, overlooking Pleasantville and Quidi Vidi Lake.
It was completed in 2021 but the formal opening and acknowledgments came yesterday, with much credit bestowed upon retired civilian member Helen Escott, who quickly credited others.
She says it’s the donations and volunteer time that got the project done, adding it’s about ensuring the fallen members are never forgotten.
Escott says the garden is the first of its kind in Canada.
Each patio stone is engraved with names of the fallen who were either from NL or served here.
