The Bay D’Espoir Highway has been closed since Sunday afternoon due to heavy smoke, the heat and the fires, which are believed to have been sparked by lightning strikes in the area.
Three waterbombers, four helicopters, and 24 staff have been deployed to the area.
According to the forest fire index, the greatest risk in the province for forest fires currently is in central, the south coast, and on the Avalon.
