Four crews of women are going to make a bit of history at the Royal St. John’s Regatta this year. The committee changed the rules to allow women to row the full course, which until now has been the sole domain of male crews. The four women’s crews who are going to take on the challenge will be the first to do so.
Regatta Day is fast approaching with about 70 crews ready to go. This is the last full week of training.
Committee President Noelle Thomas Kennell says this will be an old-fashioned Regatta with all the bells and whistles including concession stands. There are no COVID-related restrictions.
She says people can wear a mask if they so choose but it is not compulsory. There will be some road closures in the area of Quidi Vidi beginning at 3 p.m. next Tuesday.
