A St. John’s author will launch a new book based on his own family’s unique love story.
Love Will Out by David Michael is based on the unusual love story involving his Lebanese father and Jewish mother in St. John’s in the 1920s and 30s.
Michael, the cousin of former NDP Leader Lorraine Michael, says his parents lived on New Gower Street where a lot of Lebanese and Chinese families settled at the time.
He says his parents’ love story was a unique one for the time, but with some eerie parallels to life today.
His mother’s family had escaped the Russians in Poland, while his father’s Christian family escaped a different kind of persecution in Lebanon.
The launch takes place this evening at the Masonic Lodge. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
