A forest ecologist says not all is lost when it comes to the ecosystem in central Newfoundland.
The fires in the Paradise Lake area are being monitored by fire crews after weeks of scorching woodland in the region.
However, Andre Arsenault with Natural Resource Canada says when it comes to forest health, the fire hasn’t taken anything from the ecosystem.
He calls it a rejuvenation of the forest, as some species and trees will benefit from clearing. He says its part of the cycle of nature.
He says the fires can eventually cause a problem for the environment. When fires become too frequent, trees, like black spruce, can have trouble generating.
