The town of Conception Bay South and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary have partnered to promote back-to-school safety on the province’s roads.
Effective immediately, speed limits in all school zones in CBS are reduced to 30 km/h from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during school days.
At Admiral’s Academy this morning, mayor Darrin Bent says many of the schools are located along Route 60, the fifth busiest road in the province.
Bent says safety is the top priority in the town, especially for students heading back to class.
RNC Deputy Chief Colin McNeil says it is important for drivers to recognize their responsibility when they get behind the wheel.
He says the RNC will target those who are speeding or driving aggressively. McNeil is imploring drivers to reduce their speeds to ensure the safety of students this year.
