Newfoundland and Labrador may have new millionaires thanks to a big Lotto 6/49 win, but the buyers aren’t the only ones benefitting from the ticket.
Doug Ellsworth and Lawrence Russell, two best friends from Bay Roberts, are the winners of $15.5 million.
Ellsworth is the one who bought the ticket from Water Street Variety. As a result, that store receives a one per cent seller’s prize—about $150,000.
The store, operated by John and Paula Delaney, has been in business for 27 years.
Paula says the extra money came at just the right time as a few months earlier the couple made the decision to retire at the end of this year.
She says they had people in the week before the ticket was sold to start the process of selling the business. and the money makes it a bit easier for them to retire.
Meanwhile, there was another lotto winner in Newfoundland and Labrador in last night’s Lotto 6/49 draw. A ticket worth $65,000 on the Guaranteed Main Prize was purchased somewhere in the province. Details won’t come out until the holder comes forward.
