An Accession Proclamation Ceremony for King Charles III will take place this afternoon at Government House in St. John’s.
Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote will host the ceremony and will be joined by Premier Andrew Furey.
A 21-gun salute will follow on the grounds of Government House to mark King Charles’ accession to the Throne.
King Charles addressed the British public yesterday acknowledging a nation in mourning and thanking the public for their expressions of condolence on the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
He praised his mother for her love, guidance and unfailing dedication to duty.
His son William has been named Prince of Wales and will assume the Scottish titles which he says have meant so much to him, as well as the title of Duke of Cornwall. Charles’ wife Camilla is now Queen Consort.
