A Quebec woman was in the province on Sunday to complete the latest stop in a marathon of Terry Fox runs.
Lauren Small-Pennefather, a municipal councilor in Montreal West, decided to celebrate her 50th birthday last year by embarking on an ambitious challenge; she has decided to run 10 kilometers in every province across Canada to raise funds for the Terry Fox Foundation.
Her plan is to do one province a month leading up to her birthday in February, with a goal of raising $50,000. Including Newfoundland and Labrador, she has made seven stops thus far and raised over $7,000.
For Pennefather, the run is a personal experience as she lost both of her parents to the disease.
She says she hasn’t missed a run in over two decades and as a result has become close with the Fox family.
The first thing she did after arriving in the province was head to the Terry Fox statue at Mile 0.
